This will point you in a decent direction. Add an exception to your antivirus to see if a new update or definition is causing a problem. Come back when you have information from this if you weren't able to track it down. Just adding some additional info to what we've seen with this problem so far. The problem hasn't resurfaced for a few weeks now, so we hope whatever the cause was has "fixed itself" and won't bother us again.
But since my first post, mine and my manager's PCs were also affected by this. I was running Windows 10, his was 8. We checked the affected PCs for malware and other nasties, all came up completely clean. I have already wiped and reinstalled my machine, have had no issues since then. Again, it's been so difficult to troubleshoot when the computer is already locked up and nothing shows up in the event logs. I'll post back if we see the problem spring up again.

Reinstalling onto a clean drive and manually installing all of the applications you need is cumbersome but will yield a significantly faster, smoother system. You should be able to download any drivers you need from the dell website so you just need the installation media.

From the perfmon snip it is clear that disk 1 is maxed out blue line for more than 20 secs during which time the computer probably lagged.
