Windows cannot start the oracle service on local computer

There is a listener service created check in services. It is actually started and running fine check in services. Below Oracle related services are running on my machine 1. OracleCSService 2. I guess because of this service I am not able to connect. How can I start this service without any error????

Oracle 10g DBConsole work only immediately after installation of oracle on xp but, ceases to work there after irrespective of whether the Listener is started or not. It only works perfectly on any server based machine like Solaris or RedHat.

If you look in the installation guide sections for Windows, you will see that Oracle 10g Release 1 and 2, and also Oracle 11g Release 1 are fully supported on Windows XP Professional, let alone Windows Server.

I myself have installed and configured all 3, and the now-desupported Oracle 9i on my Windows XP machines with no issues. Secondly, as to what the poster above mentioned, please show me how you are able to connect to the Oracle 10g Enterprise Manager Database Control after manually stopping the listener, on Solaris or Redhat, either one, as I am very curious to see it.

To the original poster, I hope you have managed to solve the problem by now, but looking at the error you received, it seems there is a problem with how the dbconsole service is configured on your machine. Re-creating it if necessary should solve the problem, so please get back to us if you are still having issues. Oracle 10g Database Control, as the database itself, also works fine on Windows XP, if set up correctly.

That goes even more so for the Home editions where functionality has been disabled. Saving a thousand bucks just to use a client OS on generic hardware shows either or both a lack of planning or a lack of management support. It is completely up to you and your company, of course, but there is a lot to be said about using the proper tools for the job. You can plan for success, or not. If not, you are setting yourself up to fail in a large and spectacular way and you have no one to blame but yourself.

And some of the responses following were just downright inaccurate, which is what I was commenting on. We can only respond to the questions we are asked, and sometimes we have to point out the obvious even when there may be little that can be done to change the situation.

My advice was to rethink the strategy of putting a critical system on a client OS. They are welcome to take the advice or not. I hate to see anyone in IT placed in that position. Yes, I did say 10g is not supported on XP — my apologies to the OP and the group for bad information. Sign up using Facebook.
