Ntfs permissions delete files but not folders

As per the original post though I have tried applying these permissions, but the problem is that users cannot modify documents within these folders without Delete privileges. As I understand it the way Windows has been written means that when a user modifies a document the original document is actually deleted, then replaced by the updated version, rather than the original document being truly modified. I didnt think it would work this way, because the List permission is actually "List Folder Contents". But ABE requires the user to have at least Read permissions. Since List is lower than Read permissions the files do not get displayed. You'd think then the folders wouldnt get displayed either since they have List not Read permissions assigned..

This is because LIST basically gives read access to folders, but doesnt assign any permissions to files. To continue this discussion, please ask a new question. We want a user to have all rights to subfolders and files within a given folder "Beacon" - see below picture , except the right to delete or move those subfolders and files. It all works fine with rights we've set up, except that the user can't rename subfolders and files, either ones already in the "Beacon" or ones he creates in "Beacon".

If we give him the "Delete" right, than renaming is no issue. We can't give him "delete" right as not having one is a condition for this user's level of access.
