Then came the next problem. Sprocket shape and clearance from the wheel hub. The sprocket on my bike is not the same width along its radius. It gets a bit fatter near the teeth. Also the sprocket diameter is not much greater than the wheel hub. Both these things made it impossible to get a good foothold with the clamp. The clamp has to be truly vertical to the sprocket otherwise it will never be accurate. Bin the laser.
