Centrifugal fan manual
Operating limits for Single Width backwardly inclined Centrifugal Fan. Fan Laws. The fans operate under a predictable set of laws concerning speed, power and pressure.
A change in speed revolutions per minute or RPM of any fan will predictably change the pressure rise and power necessary to operate it at the new RPM. Whenever a fan is operated in a system where any or all of these conditions vary, corrections must be made in order to obtain accurate results. Impeller overhung on shaft, two bearings mounted on pedestal base. Alternative: Bearings mounted on independent pedestals, with or without inlet box. Impeller overhung on shaft, bearings mounted in bracket supported by the fan casing.
Alternative: With inlet box. Impeller mounted on shaft between bearings supported by the fan casing. Alternative: Bearings mounted on independent pedestals with inlet box and designated as Arr. Impeller overhung on motor shaft. No bearings on fan.
Motor mounted on base. Generally the same as Arrangement 3, with base for the prime mover. Generally the same as Arrangement 1, with base for the prime mover. Motor mounted on the outside of the bearing base.
Generally the same as Arrangement 9 with motor mounted inside of the bearing pedestal. Bearings out of the airstream allow for high temperature operation. The option of using belt drives allows for speed adjustment in case of a performance deficit. The motor must be mounted separately or a unitary base is provided. In addition, the pedestal bearing is shorter, which makes a smaller assembly. A shorter pedestal is less robust at high fan speeds, therefore Arrangement 2 should be used for low speed fans only.
Bearings are mounted in the inlet and drive, usually on a bearing bar, so it has a small footprint. Can be direct or belt driven. Bearings in the airstream. Bearings may be moved out of the airstream by using inlet boxes but this increases the size of the footprint. The airstream temperature will be passed directly to the motor shaft and bearings. Generally, Arrangement 4 must only be used with small fan wheels.
A motor pedestal may be incorporated in the fan structure. The motor pedestal is incorporated into the fan structure. The motor is mounted on the side of the pedestal to make the fan and driver a compact unit. Larger motors cannot be mounted in this arrangement or special provisions must be made. The fan and motor are mounted as a compact unit with the motor inside the bearing pedestal. This arrangement is usually used with small- to mid-sized fans and motors. Position of inlet box and air entry to inlet box is determined from the drive side as defined below: a.
On single inlet fans: The drive side is that side which is opposite of the fan inlet. On double inlet fans: 1. With a single driver: That side with the driver is considered as the drive side. With multiple drivers: That side with the higher total power is considered as the drive side. If the total power on each side is equal, then the side that has the fixed non-expansion bearing is considered as the drive side. Position of inlet box is determined in accordance with diagrams.
Angle of air entry to box is referred to the top vertical axis of fan in degrees as measured in the direction of fan rotation. Angle of air entry to box may be any intermediate angle as required. Direction of rotation and angular reference is determined from the drive side as defined below: a.
If the total power on each side is equal, then the side that has the fixed non- expansion bearing is considered as the drive side. Direction of discharge is determined in accordance with diagrams. Angle of discharge is referred to the top vertical axis of fan and designated in degrees as measured in the direction of fan rotation. Isabel Evans's Ownd. Centrifugal fan maintenance manual. Any maintenance intervention highlighted by the symbol to the side should be requested to HDF S.
If you have questions, contact the factory. A qualified person s must perform installation work and electrical wiring in accordance with all applicable codes and standards, including fire-rated construction. When cutting or drilling into walls or ceilings, take care not to damage electrical wires or other hidden utilities.
Check voltage at the fan to see that it corresponds to the motor nameplate. Continental Fan also offers the following:. A spring operated backdraft damper optional is recommended to prevent the entry of cold air into a bathroom through the exhaust duct. It should be installed just above the grille collar, and may be mounted at any angle provided the damper blades are allowed to swing freely in the airflow direction.
Working on or near energized equipment could result in death or serious injury. For optimum performance, the AXC in-line duct fan should be mounted near the termination of the duct, close to an outside vent. Allow sufficient access to the fan for recommended maintenance. Attach mounting brackets to the fan housing Figure 1a or Figure 1b. Please note the airflow direction arrow located on the box cover.
Secure the fan to a support at the selected location. The fan may be mounted in any position; however, vertical orientation is recommended to reduce condensation build-up in the fan. The terminal box should be positioned for easy access. Select a location that will facilitate the rapid collection and dissipation of bathroom air. For larger bathrooms, it is recommended that two exhaust grilles be installed: one near the shower, and the other above the toilet.
